Maryland Ranks 34 Among Healthiest, Happiest States

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Are you happy living in Maryland?

According to a new Gallup-Healthways report, Maryland ranks 34 among the healthiest and happiest states.

The report is based on a number of factors from physical activity, finances, social interactions, people knowing their purpose and do they feel a part of a community.

Maryland was happiest with social interactions (no. 10) and their finances (no. 14).

Nearby states ranked as follows: Virginia was no. 17, Delaware moved up 11 spots from 2014 to 27, and Pennsylvania was just above Maryland at 33.

Delaware was ranked no. 1 for purpose.

The healthiest and happiest states to live in? Hawaii ranked number 1, followed by Alaska and Montana. Colorado and Wyoming rounded out the top 5.

And the states that ranked the worst? West Virginia was at the bottom of the list with Kentucky (49) and Oklahoma (48) just above.
