Maryland Parole And Probation Director Resigns
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The director of Maryland's Division of Parole and Probation is resigning after eight months on the job.
The Washington Post reported in its Saturday edition that Judith Sachwald told employees in a Nov. 6 email she was returning to consulting work.
Her clients will include the agency she's leaving, according to another email obtained by the Post. The newspaper reports that Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Stephen Moyer responded to Sachwald's resignation notice by asking her to work for the department on a contractual basis as a "best practices adviser."
Sachwald is leaving Dec. 1. Her deputy, Joseph Clocker, will serve as acting director while the department conducts a search for her successor.
Sachwald has advocated reducing the prison population by focusing more on community-based programs.
