Man Who Pointed Gun At Police Gets 12 Years
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A man who was shot several times after he pointed a gun at two police officers has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
James Jardina of Myersville attended a sentencing hearing Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court in a wheelchair. The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that he has undergone 13 surgeries for injuries sustained when officers shot him.
Prosecutors say Jardina, 46, pointed a handgun at a Washington County Sheriff's deputy and a Natural Resources Police officer in June 2012 near a park-and-ride lot. Authorities say police had been looking for Jardina after his wife reported that he was contemplating suicide.
Jardina pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.
