Man Shot & Killed By Baltimore Police Officer

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) -- Authorities say a Baltimore police officer investigating a domestic disturbance shot and fatally injured a 25-year-old man.

Authorities say the incident began Saturday around 11:15 a.m. when an officer responded to a call for a disturbance inside a rowhouse in the 2500-block of Brookfield Avenue.

Baltimore Police Lt. Col. Garnell W. Green says a man ran from the house, and the officer chased him about two blocks. Green says the man who ran from the house had an "edged weapon," and he and the officer got into a physical altercation.

George Wells was shot in the 2400-block of Callow Avenue.  Wells later died from his injuries at Shock Trauma.

The officer was not injured, but as per routine the officer is on leave.
