Man Pleads Guilty In Death Of Homeless Man In Maryland

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A homeless man charged in the death of another homeless man in Hagerstown has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports 31-year-old Marvin F. House III pleaded guilty Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court in the death of 63-year-old Jan Hammond.

House also pleaded guilty to assault for beating of another man, 36-year-old Willie Ladson Jr., during the same Jan. 17 incident.

Washington County Assistant State's Attorney Christopher McCormack says prosecutors will seek a 30-year sentence on the second-degree murder charge and a 25-year suspended sentence on the assault charge.

Assistant Public Defender Thomas Tamm says the defense will argue for a sentence of 25 years or less.

Police say House acknowledged punching both men repeatedly after they made sexual remarks and advances toward his fiancée.
