Man Convicted Of Credit Fraud, Identity Theft Schemes
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A Bowie man has been convicted of numerous charges of credit fraud, wire fraud and identity theft, including a $14,000 credit theft while he was awaiting trial.
Fifty-five-year-old Kenneth Wayne Watford was convicted Thursday in federal court in Greenbelt. He will be sentenced on July 28.
According to evidence presented at trial, Watford and others used the stolen identities of consumers and posed as those consumers at car dealers to apply for financing for luxury vehicles.
Prosecutors say after Watford was arrested in 2013 and released pending trial, he fraudulently obtained a credit line through a financing company, and ran up more than $14,000 in purchases.
