Man Awaiting Hearing Bolts From Courthouse
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office says a man awaiting a hearing in the courthouse ran away after he learned about an outstanding warrant. Authorities say he was apprehended a few blocks away in a preschool parking lot.
Sheriff's spokesman Harry Neisser tells The Capital of Annapolis that Pierre Jourdain Smith, 31, of Beltsville was waiting for a hearing on an alleged probation violation Thursday.
Neisser says Smith was about to be served with a warrant when he bolted.
Authorities say Smith knocked down a deputy at the security checkpoint at the courthouse entrance and ran out.
Neisser says Smith was found in a parking lot of a preschool that had been locked down.
Officials say Smith faces charges of escape and assault of a law enforcement officer.
