Harford County Receives The Most Snow In Baltimore Metropolitan Area

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Many Marylanders considered Friday's snowfall the best kind of snow to have.

Mike Schuh reports the snow was just a bit of destruction in some places and other places it was barely a trace.

Before dawn, the last of the storm clouds floated away, revealing those who came out to make the sidewalks safe. Homeowners sprinkled salt. Harford County seemed to get more snow than the city or to the south.

North of town, in Timonium, this snow was just enough for Gris Batchelor to have to break out his shovel.

"This is two times in one week. My arms are starting to get tired, so hopefully we won't get some snow for a while now," said Gris Batchelor.

To the west, some Randallstown side streets kept their frosty glaze. It was enough for county schools to have a delay, so their plowmen could make the ground safe for students and staff.

The temperatures dropped below freezing so late Thursday night, that most of the snow melted when it hit the pavement. Because of the melting action, the snow hid a stubborn crust of ice underneath on car windows.

One driver decided by warming up his car for a few minutes first, he could easily remove the snow from his car.

Combining a dark color with just enough salt residue, drivers can see the difference in where the snow stuck and where it didn't.

This snow was a salty snow, meaning a bit of salt for most of us is all it took to banish the flakes forever. With cold temperatures expected, homeowners know the best way to attack is when it's fresh. Let the sun do its job, so bare pavement greets people when they return home.

The temperatures are expected to be cold, so people should treat their sidewalk before the sun goes down Friday.
