GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a jury has convicted a former Postal Service letter carrier of destroying mail he was supposed to deliver.

Forty-one-year-old Warren Bradford of Upper Marlboro was convicted on Thursday. He will be sentenced on May 25.

According to evidence presented at the three-day trial, Bradford, a 15-year Postal Service employee, was a letter carrier in the Capitol Heights Post Office. In 2009, a resident saw a Postal worker taking several trays of mail from a postal vehicles and discarding them in a secluded location.

Postal officials recovered discarded and burned mail from the site. Bradford was found when he returned to the site in a postal truck.
