Lefty Grove Video Created, Part Of Statue Fundraising Effort

LONACONING, Md. (AP) -- A video about Hall of Fame pitcher "Lefty" Grove has been created as part of a fundraising effort to get a statue of him placed in his hometown of Lonaconing.

The Cumberland Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/1MiklH9 ) project coordinator Bucky Schriver and videographer John Broadwater have worked to help put the eight-minute video together.

The video features several black-and-white clips from the 300-game winner's career and can be viewed online at the Lefty Grove Memorial website.

The project was recently boosted significantly with a $25,000 donation from former Georges Creek residents Jim and Marsha Blair.

Robert Moses Grove, known better as "Lefty," was a six-time all-star and played on two World Series Championship teams.

He was elected to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in 1947.
