Labor Union Secretary Sentenced For Embezzling
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A woman who admitted to embezzling more than $500,000 from a labor union's political action committee has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.
Thirty-two-year-old Cora Carper of Churchton was also ordered to pay restitution at sentencing Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore.
According to her plea, Carper was manager of the political action committee of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. The union represents more than 21,000 members in the U.S. and Canada.
Carper cashed more than 300 unauthorized checks to cash from the PAC fund for her personal use.
