Jury Finds Woman Criminally Responsible For Grandma's Death

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick jury has found a 20-year-old woman criminally responsible for the stabbing death of her grandmother.

The Frederick News-Post reports (bit.ly/1UAgqfa) that Wednesday's verdict means Hestina Harris faces a possible life sentence.

The jury convicted Harris last week of first-degree murder in the Dec. 22 slaying of Lillie Morris at the home they shared. Defense attorneys presented evidence this week that Harris was hospitalized in 2010 after a psychotic break. A defense psychologist testified she might be schizophrenic.

A prosecution psychiatrist testified Harris was capable of understanding she was committing a crime.

Dr. Khalid El-Sayed also testified that Harris was under stress. He said she had recently learned she was pregnant with her second child, had dropped out of college and had been bickering with her grandmother.
