Jason Catania Talks MLB Free Agents

Jason Catania with MLB.com joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about pending free agents in the MLB and what they may end up signing for.

The Orioles come into this off-season with many key players set to hit free agency. Jason talked about what he expects from Baltimore this off-season. "I think this is going to be a pretty big turnover off-season for them. A lot of guys are probably going to be leaving and frankly they're still in a position where the talent on the field is still there but the farm system is definitely lacking. To me it's probably one of the five or so worst in the game. I don't think they are out of the running for any of these big name guys neccessarily but as you know the Orioles aren't typically right at the front of the most expensive free agents either."

Jeremy Conn asked Jason Catania to name some of the best free agents on the market in his opinion, "I think the top arm is probably David Price. I think he's going to get somewhere around $200 million dollars which is what Max Scherzer got last year ($210 million). I think he will be the number one sought after free agent. I think the number one position player is probably going to be Jason Heyward. He's 26 years old so he's still working into his prime which is younger than most free agents in general. I think he's a really good player all around. I think there are a lot of teams that value the type of player he is. I think he's going to get $150-175 milliion himself."

Scott Garceau asked Jason what he thinks the odds are of the Orioles signing Alex Gordon if they don't sign Chris Davis. "I like Gordon; I think he's a really really good player. He's kind of like Jason Heyward but five years older. That's the one thing that worries me a little bit. I would kind of like to get in on a guy that's a little bit younger. With that said he's going to get his $18-20 million dollars a year. That's probably what he will end up getting."
