Woman killed in head-on crash with man fleeing police in stolen car on I-695

BALTIMORE -- A woman died after she was involved in a head-on collision with a man driving a stolen car early Monday. The male driver was attempting to escape a police pursuit on I-695, according to authorities.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General said police spotted a reported stolen car at a hotel parking lot on Belmont Avenue in Windsor Mill.

The man got into the car and officers attempted a traffic stop, but he continued to drive the wrong way onto the exit ramp of the I-695 outer loop before Exit 18 (Liberty Road). He then crashed head-on with another car, police said.

The female driver who was struck was taken to the hospital where she died. The driver of the stolen car was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officers involved were wearing body cameras. However, no additional details were immediately made available. 

The Independent Investigations Division of the Attorney General's Office will be investigating the crash.
