High Temperatures To Cause Train Delays In D.C. Area
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some MARC and VRE customers can expect delays this afternoon because of high heat.
Transit officials said Tuesday that passengers on MARC's Brunswick and Camden Lines can expect delays of 5 to 15 minutes. That's because of speed restrictions put in place because of expected high heat Tuesday afternoon and evening. Speed reductions are put in place when temperatures are expected to be consistent at 85 degrees or more or if the temperature swings 25 degrees or more in a 24-hour period.
Officials also said Virginia Railway Express trains on the Fredericksburg line will be delayed up to 11 minutes between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. because of the heat. VRE says the farther a person is traveling the longer the delay will be.
