The remains of Graham, a University of Virginia student, were found in October 2014 after she went missing in September 2014 following a night out. Matthew was seen on surveillance camera footage with Graham before she disappeared.

Officials also later linked Matthew with the 2005 death and disappearance of Harrington, a Virginia Tech student.

The office of the Commonwealth's Attorney of Abermarle County states they cannot discuss the specifics of the case in the interest of protecting the integrity of the judicial process.
