Police: 7-Month-Old That Died Christmas Morning Showed Signs Of Being Shaken

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 7-month-old baby brought to a Baltimore hospital over the weekend died on Christmas morning, and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Police said Harlem Phillips was brought to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital around 10 p.m. Sunday after reportedly falling off a couch at a home in northeast Baltimore. Phillips was unresponsive and unconscious.

Phillips died around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Doctors reportedly told detectives the baby's injuries were consistent with those of babies who had been shaken.

Medical examiners ruled Phillips' death as being due to blunt force trauma.

"Doctors performed the autopsy on December 26," Baltimore Police Detective Donny Moses said. "Doctors called homicide detectives and told them the baby actually died from blunt force trauma and not as a result of a fall."

Detectives questioned the baby's mother and caregiver, among others. So far, no charges have been filed, police said.

"Detectives are questioning people; they're hoping to get information from people who may have heard an argument, neighbors who may have heard or seen something that wasn't quite right," Moses said. "They're looking to get any shred of information that will help them identify a suspect and ultimately bring that suspect in with charges."

A neighbor, who wished not to be identified, told WJZ that she heard commotion during the time of the incident.

"Yelling back and forth," she said. "Then I heard, 'What did you do, what's wrong?' Then you could hear, 'I just found him like that. Ten minutes later, the ambulance pulled up."

Other neighbors told WJZ that they want justice for Harlem.

"I just want justice for that baby," a neighbor told WJZ.
