FluMist Vaccination Program Canceled For AACo. Public Schools

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—Anne Arundel County school officials have announced that the 2015 administration of the free FluMist vaccination for elementary students has been cancelled due to a delay in manufacturing and shipment of the vaccine.

Anne Arundel County health officials say they don't anticipate any vaccines to be available before December 2015.

"The FluMist vaccination program has been a very successful partnership between the school system and Department of Health for the last decade. This manufacturing delay is an unfortunate turn of events," said Dr. David C. Rose, Acting Health Officer for Anne Arundel County. "The FluMist vaccination program simply could not move forward without knowing when we would receive an ample supply of the nasal spray vaccine. We hope to resume the program next year."

FluMist is a nasal spray vaccine that contains a live but weakened flu virus.

Officials say the injectable form of the vaccine is widely available. Parents are urged to contact their primary care physicians to set up appointments for the vaccine.
