Fire Destroys 4,200-Square-Foot House In Accokeek

ACCOKEEK, Md. (AP) -- Firefighters say a 4,200-square foot home in Accokeek was destroyed by fire and collapsed into the basement. No one was injured.

The fire was reported about 7 a.m. Monday on Jamies Way, Prince George County firefighters said in a news release. Flames were showing from both floors of the two-story home when firefighters arrived.

Authorities say the fire burned for 90 minutes and gutted the house. A resident and two dogs escaped.

Fire officials say the house was equipped with smoke alarms and a residential sprinkler system.

Damage is estimated at $1.5 million. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
