BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Celebrating the past and anticipating the future. The Baltimore Orioles honored former greats as they make a new push for the playoffs. Wednesday night, Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray were inducted into the Hall of Legends.

While fans are excited for Cal and Eddie, Cal and Eddie are excited for the Orioles and their current standing.

It's an all-star night at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Baltimore. Orioles greats and Major League Baseball Hall of Famers Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray are inducted to Baltimore's Sports Legends Museum's Hall of Legends. Ripken recalls waiting for a shot to get in the starting lineup.

"I made up my mind at that moment if I ever cracked that lineup, I'm never coming out," Ripken said.

"So Cal and Eddie really took us a long way and the fans turned out tonight to thank them for what they did," said Mike Gibbons, Sports Legends Museum.

The timing of Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken being inducted into the Hall of Legends is perfect, considering how well the Orioles are doing this season.

On 105.7 The Fan, Steve Davis and Ed Norris talked baseball with fans. Right now, the Orioles are tied for first in the American League East with the New York Yankees. Orioles excitement is spreading throughout Baltimore.

"We got our tickets and we're going and I just hope it works out for 'em," said Skip Cornbrooks.

At the ceremony for Cal Ripken and Eddie Murray, there was excitement for the current Orioles and pride for two of the game's best. Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak. Murray, with a career 3,000 plus hits and 504 home runs, recently had a statue of himself unveiled.

"They put the statue of me, that was just..." Murray said.

The Orioles are fighting to hold on to first place in their push for the playoffs.
