Explosion At Industrial Building Causes $550,000 In Damages

BELCAMP, Md. (AP) -- An explosion inside a mechanical room of an industrial building has caused $550,000 in damages.

The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1PL8Kke ) reports the explosion at TIC Gums' Brass Mill Operations Center in Belcamp Saturday morning was initially reported as a roof collapse caused by a fire. Further investigation revealed the incident started with the explosion in the mechanical room.

The explosion caused the exterior wall to bulge outward and the interior walls to collapse. A transformer outside the building also caught fire and flames spread throughout the facility.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, says no one was injured.

Senior Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire says the fire marshal's office is still investigating the cause of the explosion.
