Woman accused of killing estranged husband in Baltimore shooting

A woman was arrested and charged with shooting and killing her estranged husband, according to Baltimore City police.

Rene Parks was charged with murder, assault and firearm possession in connection with the deadly shooting that occurred on March 31, police said. As of Friday afternoon, court records do not list an attorney for Rene Parks.

According to charging documents, officers were called for a reported shooting in the 3700 block of W. Belvedere Avenue. They arrived to find a silver vehicle in the back of a parking lot.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found a man, later identified as Garreth Parks, Jr.,  suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck, police said.

A woman in the passenger seat was applying pressure to Parks' wound when officers arrived. She identified herself as Parks' girlfriend, according to charging documents.

The woman told police that she and Parks had arrived at the parking lot around 10 p.m. She said Parks saw a friend in the back of the parking lot and got out of the vehicle to speak with them. After the conversation, he got back into his car.

A short time later, another car pulled up with a woman inside — later identified as Garreth Parks' estranged wife, Rene Parks, according to charging documents.

The girlfriend reported to police that Rene Parks stopped her car near the driver's side of Garreth Parks' vehicle and pulled out a purple handgun.

Rene Parks allegedly fired one shot at her estranged husband, hitting him in the neck. Authorities said she then fled the scene.

Garreth Parks was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rene Parks was later arrested at her home in Lutherville, Maryland, according to police. A gun was recovered during a search of her home. However, charging documents said it was not the same firearm that Garreth Parks' girlfriend described to officers.
