3 Vehicles Involved In Fatal Accident In Baltimore Co.

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- On the run. Two alleged burglary suspects on a crime spree took off when police tried to stop them. Now one is dead and the other is behind bars.

Meghan McCorkell has more on how they tried to escape.

Baltimore County Police had been on the lookout for the gray Honda Accord involved in at least four burglaries in the Monkton area. When police found the car, one suspect's attempt to get away turned tragic.

Sky Eye Chopper 13 was over the scene as a police pursuit came to a deadly end. Investigators say they were on the lookout for a gray Honda Accord.

"We have had a number of burglaries in this area this week and that's why we were looking for this particular vehicle," said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County Police.

Tuesday afternoon, a homeowner in Monkton found that car and two burglars inside his home. Minutes later, a police officer tried to stop the suspect's car, but the driver wouldn't pull over. He was identified as 20-year-old Aaron Nathaniel McCoy Jr. McCoy is from Baltimore.

"At this point we pull back our patrol cars because we don't want the suspect to flee," Armacost said.

Police followed the car from the air.

Along Merrymans Mill Road, the passenger in that car jumped out and started running from police. He didn't make it far before officers caught up.

Five minutes later, on Dulaney Valley Road, the other suspect in the car clipped a blue Jeep Cherokee and both cars went head-on into a pickup truck. McCoy was killed.

"I'm very surprised because this area has been so safe," said neighbor Dottie Kelso.

Word about the burglaries has been spreading in this community.

"Some man in our neighborhood came home and found a person in his garage," said Kelso.

Councilman Todd Hoff has been working with police to stop the crime spree.

"This caught a lot of people by surprise. You know, you think you're out in the country and you're safe and secure and all this is going on," Hoff said.

Community members are now hoping this tragic crash means an end to the break-ins.

Four people also involved in the accident were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Baltimore County Police say at no point did they chase McCoy's car.
