Driver Guilty In Crash That Killed Senate Candidate
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A driver who struck and killed a Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010 has been convicted of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
Christy Littleford, 43, of Upper Marlboro faces up to 10 years in prison for the early morning crash that killed Natasha Pettigrew.
Prosecutors say Littleford struck Pettigrew, 30, with her SUV as the candidate was biking on Route 202 on Sept. 19, 2010.
Joseph Vallario, Littleford's lawyer, says Littleford assumed she had hit a deer. Vallario says it wasn't until Littleford got
home and told her husband that they found the bike under the SUV and contacted authorities.
Littleford is scheduled to be sentenced on August 3.
