DNA Matches Lead To Man Being Charged In 2 Cold Case Rapes

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Police say DNA matches have led to a man being charged in two rapes that occurred in 2012 and 2014.

On May 22, 2012, a woman was repeatedly assaulted and raped on North Front Street. Officers say a recent "hit" from the Maryland State Police Convicted Offender DNA Database led them to a suspect.

On Sept. 24, police arrested 42-year-old Derrick Eugene Cabbagestalk of Baltimore. He was charged with rape and other offenses and ordered held without bail.

Investigators while say Cabbagestalk was in jail, another hit on the DNA database identified him as a suspect in a rape that occurred on March 18, 2014, on South Central Avenue.

Cabbagestalk was charged with rape and other offenses in the 2014 crime.
