Coronavirus In Maryland: Total Cases At 83.7K; Hospitalizations Nearly Flat
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Maryland climbed by nearly 700 on Sunday, data from the state's health department shows.
As of Sunday morning, 83,748 cases have been reported, up 694 from Saturday.
The number of people in the hospital in the state fell by five to 540. Of those, 387 are in acute care and 153 are in intensive care.

The number of deaths reported in the state increased by five to 3,309.
Meanwhile, the percentage of people who tested positive for COVID-19 dropped by one-one hundredth of a percent to 4.47 percent.
Just over 22,000 new tests were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the state's total to 1,097,361. Since Saturday, another 12,552 tests were found to be negative.
The nearly 700 cases is a drop from the nearly 1,300 new cases reported Saturday.
Gov. Larry Hogan was on CNN this Sunday, saying the drop could be related to the time it's taking in Maryland to complete tests.
"The processing is slowing down," Gov. Hogan said.
He cited the suggest in other states and a lack of testing supplies like reagents.
"It's slowing down the testing at these national labs and I think that's something the federal government has really gotta focus on," Gov. Hogan said.
The governor disagreed with President Trump's plans to possibly cut federal funding for testing programs.
"We're not going to be able to keep this under control," the governor said.
In the meantime, officials in Baltimore are growing more concerned with their rise in cases.
"A dramatic rise in cases in our residents under the age of forty," Mayor Jack Young said.
Mayor Young issued an executive order starting this weekend, suspending indoor dining and requiring masks for everyone ages two years and up.
"These decisions were not easy nor were they made to punish a particular industry," he said.
The mask requirement is for when social distancing isn't possible, both inside and outside.
"He wear his mask the entire time he's inside," said Chrissy, a Baltimore city resident.
Percy is two and a half, the youngest mask wearer in his family.
"He has one that matches Daddy and he also has fun patterns so that makes it more exciting," Chrissy said.
Some residents are questioning parts of the new mandate.
"If we're outside, I'm not sure a mask is doing anybody any good," said Mark Howl, a city resident.
Starting Monday, another eight miles of streets in the city will be closed to add more space for social distancing.
