BLOG: Winter Weather Ahead?

The storm developing down near the coast of Texas is expected to have most of its precipitation stay to our south Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, but the city could be on the northern fringe with some light precipitation. The models are all pretty consistent at keeping the precipitation at its northernmost point from near Baltimore to south of Wilmington and south of Atlantic City. The low center will track from southern Louisiana Saturday evening to near Birmingham, Ala. Sunday morning to near Wilmington, N.C. Sunday evening then east-northeastward over the Atlantic.

So with us looking out of the woods in the city with that system we don't foresee any big precipitation chances through at least Wednesday. Looking to our west-northwest and see an upper level disturbance and a weak front. Ahead of that feature Saturday we will have intervals of sunshine and clouds with a mild afternoon breeze from the southwest. Late Saturday and early Saturday night this feature will cross. The wind will turn northwest overnight behind that feature and help send in dry, chillier air. That chillier northerly flow will continue then Sunday with the clouds from the storm system thickening up. There is still the potential for 1-3 inches of snow down in the southern parts of our viewing area Sunday afternoon and early Sunday night. That would be from just south of D.C. eastward.
