WEATHER BLOG: Thunderstorms Affect Parts Of Maryland Tuesday

Strong to severe thunderstorms are moving across Maryland Tuesday evening. There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 10 p.m. for Carroll, Frederick, and Washington counties with some warnings already issued. As the front slowly moves off to the east later in the evening, there is the chance for more warnings. We will pass along anything that is issued by the National Weather Service. Even though the thunderstorms will lose their potential to go severe later on Tuesday, there is still the chance for showers and thunderstorms into Wednesday. The responsible front will slowly try to move offshore Wednesday afternoon, taking the stormy weather with it.

This front isn't just bringing us the showers and thunderstorms, it is directing tropical depression Beryl off to the northeast and eventually out to sea. Along this track, Beryl will track along the Carolina coast and probably strengthen over the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream while passing well south of Maryland in the next couple of days.

Cooler and drier air will follow the front starting Thursday. Highs will jump from the low 90s to only the 70s - which is closer to our average of 78 degrees right now. Then, another storm will move our way Friday night into Saturday. This front will bring some rain and maybe some thunderstorms with it. Even with a new front, temperatures will be running closer to average through the weekend.
