BLOG: Summer Solstice

Welcome to summer!

Summer officially begins today at 1:16 p.m. Even though it didn't feel much like summer yesterday nor this morning, more summertime weather is coming our way for the rest of the week.

The clouds and showers this morning were associated with a warm front. It is already pushing north of the state this afternoon, ushering in a new round of hot and muggy weather. Highs will climb into the mid 80s this afternoon, then jump to the 90s the next few days. At the same time, the hot and muggy air mass will help to produce rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms. These days are not complete washouts, but something will pop up on radar each and ever day. And there is the chance that some of these thunderstorms could become strong to even severe both tomorrow and Thursday. Of course, if any watches or warnings are issued by the National Weather Service, we will be passing them along to you both on the tv and wjz.com sides.

The cold front part of this same storm system will be hanging back to our west for a few days. It will keep the hot, muggy flow of air in place until it clears us and that will not be until sometime this weekend. Temperatures will slowly start to go back down into the 80s this weekend as it approaches us and then eventually passes us.

Happy Summer Solstice!
