BLOG: Orioles Injuries Are A Concern
I know, the games don't count until April, but what's happening at spring training does matter. The Orioles are a team with little room for error. We saw the difference with and without Brian Roberts in the line-up last year. His back acting up again, at his age, is a concern. If he can't go for an extended period of time, that messes up your line-up, because the Orioles just don't have another lead-off hitter. If Derrek Lee can't play at first, not only do you lose a good middle of the order bat, but you also are forced to play Luke Scott at 1st, hardly his strong suit. Justin Duchscherer may have been an inexpensive gamble, but he's a talented guy, and without him, the Orioles are likely to be forced to go with a rotation that is a little too young. And with Koji having troubles already, that is another injury that could have a ripple effect in the bullpen. The Orioles still have time to get these guys back, but it's a lot to handle so early.
