BLOG: Alfredo Simon's Fate

I will keep you posted as I get information regarding the Alfredo Simon case, but until really fresh information is provided I will make a prediction.  While he is in custody without bail for a horrific crime and things seem very bleak regarding his future I'd like to remind you of a similar story and outcome that I believe paves the way for his.  The Dominican Republic is a much different place than the United States. We have our problems and our criminal justice is very flawed but the DR is in a league of its own.

In the fall of 2009 a first baseman in the Giants organization named Angel Villalona shot and killed a man in the DR in a case very similar to Simon's.   He is regarded by many as the #1 prospect in the Giant's system and his fate looked very dim after killing a man and being held in prison etc

Somehow he was able to come up with $139,000 and gave that to the victim's family and everything went away...you connect the dots.

I'll reserve my comments for later and watch as the Simon case unfolds, but I have a gut feeling that it's going to have a similar ending.  As I said the Dominican Republic is a very different place.
