BLOG: 90 Degree Temps Continue Through The Week

And the heat rolls on. We did it again today... topped out in the 90s! We went all the way up to 98 degrees this afternoon.

Since the dewpoints/humidity have dropped significantly, the heat index actually made it feel just a couple of degrees lower than 98. Regardless, it was hot. And today marks the 15th consecutive day with highs at or above 90 degrees. Although that's an incredible run, the all-time record brings us right back to that historically hot summer of 1988 when it happened 25 days in a row.

The heat is going to continue for the next few days. There is a weak cold front that will drag through here tomorrow. We could see a shower or thunderstorm with the front as it moves through. Otherwise, we are going into the 90s again tomorrow afternoon as the humidity/dewpoints start to build again. Then, when the front passes through, we will top out in the 90s behind it on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is just no real cool air to tap into.

The next storm will move our way Wednesday. Most of the action will pass north of Maryland, but it will be close enough for a possible round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. This storm will head out to sea on Thursday. Highs will continue to climb into the 90s ahead of the front and then still come close to 90 degrees behind it Thursday. Even if we don't get to 90 on Thursday, the 90s will return for the end of the week.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center has sent a reconnaissance aircraft into the tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles. They are having some problems relaying the information this evening, but it looks like this will become our next organized tropical system that will move off to the northwest the next few days. If it does get a name, like it looks like it will, this would become Emily.
