Bikers Perform Stunts In Highway, Slowing Traffic

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A group of people on motorcycles and dirt bikes slowed traffic on the Capital Beltway, performing stunts and driving in the wrong direction.

Maryland State Police dispatcher L. Young says the department fielded "thousands" of calls from motorists about the incident Sunday. Young says some callers reported about 200 motorcycles on the roadway.

Maryland State Police dispatched troopers to the highway, but the bikers had dispersed by the time they arrived.

Police say it is not uncommon for packs of dirt bike and ATV riders to perform such acts when the weather is warm.

Authorities say they are looking at video of the incident.
