Baltimore's Next Mayor to Make Decisions on Free Bus Service
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is going to let the city's next mayor decide what to do about the Charm City Circulator, the city's free bus service.
Rawlings-Blake's administration had proposed scaling back the service after the City Council declined to increase the parking tax at the city's public garages in order to pay for it. The mayor said Friday that the service will "likely" need to be reduced but that she won't make changes in the remaining days of her administration.
Veolia Transportation has run the Circulator since the service's inception in 2009. A new service contract is currently under review. Rawlings-Blake said she will present the next administration with "the best and most current information" to allow the next mayor to decide what to do about future operations.
