Baltimore Families Embrace The Real Reason For Christmas

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Christmas Eve mass is being celebrated across Baltimore bringing people together to remember Christ and honor his birth.

WJZ's Tracey Leong has the details on this tradition.

It's that time of year when friends and families come together to embrace the real reason for Christmas.

"It's priceless to spread the joy of the season and spend it with my girls, and pass it on to them is the true meaning, said Lisa Dvorak.

Inside the Baltimore Basilica, many are celebrating this holiday and also reminding people to make time for others.

"Praying together and enjoy being together, it truly lifts your spirits. To be more charitable and loving with others and merciful with others," said Denis Madden, auxiliary bishop.

Christmas Eve mass is a tradition that brings people of all ages and backgrounds together.

And across the city at the Bethel A.M.E. church in Baltimore, people also remembering Christ.

"It lets us know we are all under one creator, we are all the same, there is no difference," said Tanya Green Deshieods.

"Peace on earth and good will, not just Christians, but Muslims, Jews and people of no faith of all,," said Pastor Frank Reid III, Bethel A.M.E. Church.

A message many hope carries on past the holiday season.

People are slowly gathering here for midnight mass the choir will begin at 11:30 p.m..

Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day at the Baltimore Basilica.
