At least 25 passengers were evacuated after an Amtrak train car caught fire Thursday in Baltimore County. One passenger suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

The Baltimore County Fire Department said the train car caught fire around 6:30 p.m. while passing through the area of Canberra Drive and Waterview Way in Essex.

Amtrak said its train was traveling from New York to Miami when there was smoke and fire reported on the underside of one of 10 railcars.

Fire officials said the fire was extinguished and the evacuated passengers were moved to unaffected train cars. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the train, carrying 189 passengers, continued to its next destination.
