Army Plans Controlled Burns At Aberdeen Proving Ground

ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- The Army says it's planning controlled burns this month at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County to manage areas used for testing of weapons and equipment.

The installation's public affairs office said in a statement Wednesday that officials will try to minimize smoke affecting residential areas both on and off post.

The Army says controlled burning is the safest and most cost-effective way to maintain the acreage without disturbing unexploded ordnance.

The installation is located about 30 miles northeast of Baltimore.
