AACo. Student Charged After Making Comments Degrading Homosexuality To Classmates

SEVERNA PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- An Anne Arundel County student is facing charges after allegedly harassing his classmates at school.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect made comments degrading homosexuality to students at Severna Park High School.

The students were getting signatures for an activity sponsored by the Gay/Straight Alliance Club (GSA).

Two of the students confronted the suspect, who then made additional derogatory racial comments.

Students who signed up for the activity were given ribbons to wear to show their support.

The suspect said that by wearing the ribbons, the participants were "putting a target on their back."

Police interviewed the suspect's parents. It was determined he had no access to firearms.

The suspect was charged with threats of mass violence and released to his parents.
