RISING SUN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say two women were killed and a man was seriously hurt in a head-on collision near Rising Sun. 

It happened Friday on Joseph Biggs Highway. Troopers say a car driven by Donna Brackett, 51, of Rising Sun was traveling west when a pickup truck operated by Joseph Layne, 25, of Colora traveling east crossed the center line and crashed into Brackett's car. 

Brackett and a passenger in Layne's truck, Kara Zubrzyki, 22, of Elkton died at the scene. Layne was in critical but stable condition at Christiana Hospital in Delaware. 

The crash is under investigation.
