2 Former Police Officers Charged With Illegal Gun Sale

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Two former police officers are charged with selling an illegal assault rifle and a high-capacity magazine banned by Maryland gun-control laws.

Sixty-one-year-old William Blair, a former Washington County Sheriff's deputy, and 34-year-old Erik Herb, a former Martinsburg, West Virginia, police officer, were released after bond-review hearings Tuesday in Hagerstown.

Blair's lawyer, Henry Barnes, said Wednesday his client maintains his innocence.

Herb's public defender didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press. Telephones were disconnected at two addresses listed for him.

The Herald-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/1SosFJ4 ) they are charged in indictments with selling a 5.56-caliber, Tavor SAR rifle on Feb. 11, and a magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds on the same day.

Blair, of Williamsport, is licensed firearms dealer. Herb owns a Martinsburg gun shop.
