12-Year-Old Shot In Southeast Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 12-year-old girl was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon in southeast Baltimore.
Police are searching the area for any clues that may lead them to who pulled the trigger.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of N Curley St., and police say the 12-year-old is expected to recover.
"We don't normally have that around here. That don't happen around here," one witness said.
The gunfire sent neighbors scrambling to get inside as the sound of gunfire cut through the sunshine just before 1 p.m.
"We had just came on the porch. We had just come out the door, and we heard pow and ran in the house," a witness said.
The city's new shot spotter technology picked up the shooting and alerted officers patrolling nearby.
They found the girl near Curley and Jefferson Streets, where she'd been walking with an adult. Police say someone started shooting, possibly from a block away.
"She's being treated for what we believe to be a gunshot wound to her leg," Baltimore PD Detective Jeremy Silbert said.
While she's in the hospital, investigators search for any clues that could point them to who pulled the trigger.
Officers don't think the girl was the target, just another unlucky pedestrian caught in the gun violence that plagues Baltimore.
This time, police hope the large number of witnesses will help investigators.
"We're hoping that someone in the community saw something or heard something," Silbert added.
