1 Dead After Police-Involved Shooting
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police are investigating after a police-involved shooting in which an armed man died.
The police department says it happened Saturday just before 4 a.m. on Marlboro Pike at Lee Jay Drive. Police say after officers and witnesses heard a shot fired in the area officers responded and saw a man leaving the area on foot.
Police say two officers approached the man and one noticed the man reaching for a handgun in his waistband. The officer fired multiple times, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Center.
Police identified the man Saturday evening as Robert Antonio Jones, 24, of Forestville
Police say they recovered the man's gun from the scene. The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on routine administrative leave.
