Thousands of Chicago teachers vote to strike

The Chicago Teachers Union confirmed Wednesday night that its 25,000 members will not return to their classrooms Thursday, after months of negotiation with Chicago Public Schools failed to resolve disputes over pay, benefits, class size and teacher preparation time. Chicago parents and community groups scrambled to prepare, and the city preemptively canceled classes in the nation's third-largest school district.
