South Africa grapples with 2nd surge of COVID-19 infections

South Africa now reports more than 1.1 million cases of COVID-19, making it the hardest-hit country on the continent. Scientists there discovered a new, potentially more contagious variant of the virus, similar to the one found in Britain, in December.
