Terrifying video shows what appears to be a gunman walking in the middle of the street in broad daylight, pointing and firing a semi-automatic weapon at random. Last night, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan identified the shooter as 46-year-old Tyler Brown. He's going to be charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, possession charges with respect to the weapon, as well as a variety of other charges.

Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 Monday on Memorial Drive in Cambridge between the Harvard and MIT campuses, sending drivers running for cover as bullets struck multiple cars.

He had a large rifle, an automatic weapon, and he's shooting all over the place. And people started to get out of their vehicles and run, including me.

Police say Brown fired 50 to 60 rounds, hitting at least a dozen cars.

Two males in vehicles separately were struck by gunfire. Both of those victims from separate cars are in Boston hospitals suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Brown was eventually shot by state troopers and an armed civilian, who is a former Marine. Brown is now in custody and being treated for gunshot wounds. In 2021, Brown was sentenced to five- to six-years in prison for firing several rounds at police officers in broad daylight in Boston's South End. At that time, Brown was on probation for a 2014 assault and battery conviction. According to CBS News Boston, Brown was included in an officer-safety bulletin on Monday before the shooting. Brown's parole officer also reported he made suicidal statements, and police attempted a welfare check at his home around 12:30. An hour later, the shooting started on Memorial Drive. Brown was also allegedly seen on FaceTime with an assault rifle, saying he would use it. Matt.
