The nation's four million federal employees could be forced to work without pay if Congress doesn't either pass 12 bills to fund the government or pass a short-term fix. Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with House Republicans over the weekend to gain support, but a band of far-right Republicans are creating division in the party by threatening a shutdown over any temporary funding.
