REPORTER:

Babe, you've had more publicity than the Prince of Wales. Do you like it?

BABE RUTH:
00:00:48

Well, I'll tell you about that. I wouldn't be human if I didn't like small writeups for my home runs. But I don't like the papers to say that I see sick and crippled kids to get my name in the headlines. That's all wrong. I'm strong for the kids. I know them, and they know me. Publicity can't make a fellow smack the old apple or play good ball. If he does that, he'll get publicity anyway.

REPORTER:

I saw a flock of autograph hunters around you the other day like flies around a sugar bowl. You must get a lot of writing practice.

BABE RUTH:
00:01:17

I sure do. I put the old Hancock on everything they push in front of me, except blank checks. Baseballs, books-- gosh, everything! Someday, I'll be signing socks. No one but Shohei Ohtani today could even carry the Babe's socks.
