Summer crash season fuels urgent call for blood donors

As hospitals prepare for the busy summer season, blood centers are urgently warning of blood shortages. It comes as no surprise that serious crashes often increase between Memorial Day and Labor Day, during what's called the 100 deadliest days. The Red Cross estimates fewer than 3% of age‑eligible donors give blood, and that percentage is even lower in the summer months.
