Paxton says Dallas County sheriff not complying with 287(g) requirement

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claims the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is failing to participate in the state‑required 287(g) program, which allows county jail staff to perform certain federal immigration enforcement duties. Paxton says the sheriff must finalize an agreement with ICE by June 1. The sheriff’s office responded that the deadline to be in compliance is later than Paxton asserts.
