East Coast blizzard triggers rare Southern snow as deep cold reaches Florida

A powerful winter storm is hammering the East Coast and the Southeast, bringing blizzard conditions to parts of North Carolina and dropping the biggest snowfall Charlotte has seen in 15 years — around six inches. The deep cold stretches as far south as Florida, where freeze warnings cover the entire state and temperatures in Miami are expected to dip just above freezing. Forecasters say the cold could rival the historic 1989 freeze that devastated Florida’s citrus industry.
